Humanities Bombing of Darwin Excursion
On the 19th of February 2018, Ms Irini Pikoulos’ Year 9 Humanities class and the two gold standing students Belinda and Maya Jarvis, attended the Bombing of Darwin service at the Cenotaph Esplanade Darwin. The students came together with the Defence Forces, dignitaries, special guest and the public to honour those who have fought for our freedom and to remember the loss of life. On this national day of observance students were able to see the flyover and re-enactment of the events on 19th February 1942 and to hear the air raid sirens. Students had the opportunity to understand the importance of this historic event and the place it holds in our lives today, and that our nation never forgets the horrors of war and the value of peace. The two gold standing students Belinda and Maya then lay a wreath in honour of the fallen, on behalf of the Dripstone Middle School Community.
